Jinki wakes up way too hot and he frowns not remembering turning the electric blanket on, but then he sees him – the naked form of Minho curled up against him. Jinki stiffens and tries to ignore how good it felt when they slid together, sweaty limbs aligning in the most perfect way. A part of Jinki wants to wake Minho and to do it again, but instead he feels himself pushing down his emotions. Minho lied to him, Jinki reminds himself, and he fell for it like a fool.

Jinki pretends he doesn’t feel regret as he imagines pushing Minho off the bed. He’s sure that even if Minho was sprawled across the carpet naked, he would look beautiful. Instead Jinki just shakes Minho’s shoulder roughly and even that somehow feels like a violation although Jinki’s not sure of what.

“Hyung?”

“I’d like you to leave.” Jinki mumbles standing and turning away from Minho, he doesn’t think he can bear to see those eyes right now. Jinki feels like if he sees Minho’s eyes he might just to something terribly embarrassing and awkward and beg him not to leave. No he couldn’t bear for Minho to see him so vulnerable and needy, so he does the only thing he can to protect himself.

“Please leave.” Jinki forces his voice to be steel, “You got what you wanted, sex, right? Just a one night stand.” Jinki swallows the lump in his throat, wondering why things always had to be this way.

“No, hyung,” Jinki blinks, thinking it’s funny that he hurts so much, he’s imagining it in Minho’s voice.

“I didn’t get what I wanted,” Minho whispers, and a part of Jinki thinks he’s probably made a big mistake again, but then he reminds himself he can’t do anything else. Jinki chews on the inside of his cheek, gripping his hands together as he hears Minho dressing, the rustling of his jeans as he slides them on. Jinki hates the way he can see Minho’s thighs in his mind. It really has been too long since he last had sex, maybe if he wasn’t so odd, naked Minho wouldn’t be seared into his mind right now.

Work is uneventful and Jinki swallows in relief when he realises that no one knows anything. Minho hasn’t said anything. But then Jinki realises everyone is staring with some shock at him, and Jinki’s jaw drops when Minjung comes into his office with his coffee and faints. The coffee leaves a nice brown patch on the beige carpet, and Jinki feels quite awkward as he picks Minjung up, he doesn’t quite know what to do with her, but thankfully Kibum steps into his office then.

“Shit,”

“I know,” Jinki mutters, “She just fainted, I don’t know what happened.”

“No,” Kibum grabs Jinki’s chin, making him squirm and he can remember how Minho’s fingers felt against his skin, Kibum’s are so different. It makes Jinki want to shift away but Kibum holds him firmly.

“I’m talking about that,” Kibum touches the side of Jinki’s neck, “the fucking huge hickey.”

“What?” Jinki stutters out in shock, remembering he had been in such a state he didn’t even look in the mirror before he left for work.

“I mean, pardon?”

“You have a gigantic hickey on your neck hyung,” Kibum rolls his eyes, “So gonna tell me who it was?”

“No Kibum,” Jinki just managed to keep his voice steady, “Can you take Minjung please, I have work to do. I have to proof read this article,” Jinki mumbles, stepping back from Kibum and trying to ignore the hammering of his heart. The bastard left a fucking visible mark on him, somehow it should anger Jinki but it doesn’t even if he can feel everyone staring.

“Oh come on, everyone’s dying to know.”

“And last time I checked,” Jinki turned to glare at Kibum, “my personal life was my business, not anyone else’s.”

“Alright, spoil sport,” Kibum rolled his eyes, “One day hyung, you should try letting some of us in, you might actually be fucking surprised.” Kibum slapped Jinki on the shoulder before he gingerly picked Minjung up, and tried to wake her. Failing to wake her, Jinki half watched as Kibum carried the slender woman out of his office.

Thankfully the rest of the week passed in sombre silence. Jinki felt his life shifting back to normal, with no traces of Minho at all. Jinki was relieved and sad at the same time, until his phone beeped and he looked down to see a message from an unknown sender. Jinki hoped softly that maybe, just maybe it was Minho, even though he knew he had acted coldly, and it was. But ten seconds after he read it, Jinki remembered he had to be cold to Minho (or anyone). After all he didn’t want to be hurt again, but it was hard to shut his phone and ignore it. A part of Jinki wished that Minho would be the one person to break down Jinki’s armour like a shellfish, and find the soft flesh inside delicious and worth something.

Another week passes in almost silence except for the constant buzzing of Jinki’s phone. In the end Jinki takes the battery out, because he’s sick of lying there listening to Minho’s words. It’s hard because part of him feels guilty for mistreating Taemin’s friend but on the other hand Jinki can’t quite figure out why Minho’s trying so hard. Minho didn’t strike him as the stupid sort of person, he should be able to see that Jinki is clearly saying no to him.

Jinki sighs in relief when it’s finally the weekend, finally he can relax. It’s funny in a way because Jinki hasn’t once seen Minho at work, and yet it feels like he sees Minho’s face in all of the article photographs. It’s crazy but Jinki can’t remember the last time someone got under his skin.

Jinki tries not to shiver, no he can remember the last time someone got into him. Jinki bites his lip and shakes his head as if trying to shake free the memories. It doesn’t seem fair that it still bothers him all this time, and Jinki just wishes there was some way he could cut out the sensitive delicate parts of himself, because all they seem to do is cause pain. A knock on the door shakes him from his thoughts and startled Jinki opens the door immediately, flinching when he sees Minho standing there. Jinki tries to slam the door shut and narrowly misses Minho hand resting on the doorframe. His strength however, is no match for Minho’s and the door is wedged back open again.

“You know, hyung one day you’re going to have to let someone in.” Minho holds the door open almost glaring at Jinki.

“I don’t think so, and you lied to me.” Jinki reminds him, “so why should I trust you.” Jinki wants to ask Minho why he’s so angry, shouldn’t Jinki be the one angry?

“Because I fucking like you,” Minho retorts, “And for fucks sake, who do you think has been doing all that shit for you at work?” Minho spits out, and Jinki just blinks, wondering what he means.

“The meals you forget to eat, did you ever wonder who the fuck ordered them? Or the Americano’s you like in the morning and at lunch? Did you ever wonder who ordered those and bought them for you?” Jinki blinked, he could remember Taemin or Jonghyun commenting on those too.

“Um, the office? They’re the standard things we get,” Jinki frowns across at Minho, “You mentioned it yourself, Minjung brings me the coffee.” Jinki shrugs.

“No hyung, if you don’t believe me, ask Kibum if he gets coffee in the morning or his favourite meal at lunch and dinner.”

Jinki stands there silently, and he’s about to tell Minho to come in because it’s cold but then Minho slides his hand back from the door.

“Sorry, hyung.” Minho whispers, his voice catches Jinki’s heart and tugs strongly on it, “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have come barging in here like this. Well, I shouldn’t have come over the other night, but I don’t regret it.” Minho shook his head.

“I’ll go now.”

Jinki swallows, because somehow he doesn’t regret it either, even though it feels like he left a huge chunk of his armour with Minho. Jinki can see the spot where his shiny metal chainmail is missing and it should be easy to get it back from Minho, but Jinki doesn’t know how to ask. How do you ask about invisible chainmail and armour?
